101st Precinct: Guilty Verdict In Sex Abuse Case

Guilty Verdict In Sex Abuse Case

After just 30 minutes of deliberation, a Queens jury found a 43-year-old Brooklyn man guilty of multiple counts of raping his stepdaughters over a period of 10 years, the Queens district attorney said.

Ren Arline, who lives on Sutter Avenue in Brooklyn, was found guilty of raping the girls, starting when they were 12 and 14 years old. In the decade that followed, the girls had eight children all by the defendant, Queens DA Richard Brown said.

“This was a horrible case of sexual abuse at the hands of someone who should have been caring for and protecting the victims,” Brown said. “Instead, this defendant for more than a decade used physical violence and heinous threats of death and torture to continually rape and control these children. A jury listened to the evidence and rendered a verdict of guilty to all charges. The defendant now faces spending the rest of his life locked away from civilized society.”

On Monday, a jury found Arline guilty of six counts of first-degree rape and one count of second-degree rape. Supreme Court Justice Kenneth C. Holder, who presided over the trial, has scheduled Arline’s sentencing for April 10. Arline could face up to 50 years in prison.

According to trial testimony, the abuse began in 2005, when the defendant lived in Far Rockaway and forced the victims, then 11 and 14 years old, to sleep naked in bed with him. He was 31 years old at the time.

In March 2015, Arline forced himself onto the 14-year-old girl and had sex with her. He struck her and threatened to shove a coat hanger into her vagina. On one occasion, the girl left home without permission and was dragged by her feet with her face scraping against the cement. She was beaten and violently raped by Arline. Over the years, the victim became pregnant and was forced to have five children by her stepfather.

The defendant began raping the younger girl when she was 12 years old. She was also threatened with physical harm and eventually bore three children by the defendant. At age 24, she was struck so hard in the face by the defendant that her tooth broke. She decided she could not take any more and told an official at her child’s school about the years of abuse.
