A 70-year-old Richmond Hill woman was killed after being struck by a car on Feb. 7 and a 47-year-old man from that neighborhood was arrested at the scene, police said.
Around 6:14 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck at 135th Street and Liberty Avenue in Richmond Hill. Upon arrival, police discovered Toolia Rambarose, who lived on 109th Street, lying on the roadway, unconscious and unresponsive. EMS transported her to Jamaica Medical Center in critical condition. On the following day, she died from her injuries.
An investigation revealed that Kazim Mohammed, who lives on 95th Street, was operating a Ford van and traveling northbound on 135th Street when he attempted to make a left turn onto Liberty Avenue, striking Rambarose while she was crossing Liberty Avenue from south to north. Mohammed was arrested at the scene and charged with failing to yield the right of way and failing to exercise due care. The investigation is ongoing.
