Fatal Motorcycle Crash –
A 24-year-old Woodhaven man was killed in a motorcycle in Richmond Hill on March 1, police said.
Around 5:38 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision involving a motorcyclist on Park Lane South at Myrtle Avenue. Upon arrival, police observed Daniel O’Malley, who lived on 89th Avenue, lying on the roadway.
EMS transported O’Malley to Jamaica Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District’s Collision Investigation Squad determined that O’Malley was driving his 2013 Harley Davidson motorcycle southbound on Park Lane South at the Myrtle Avenue intersection, when he lost control and entered the northbound lanes and struck a 2004 Mercedes SUV, which was being driven by a 22-year-old man.
The motorcycle mounted the sidewalk and dislodged O’Malley. The driver of the Mercedes Benz was not injured and remained on the scene. The investigation is ongoing.
Fatal Collision –
A 58-year-old Richmond Hill woman was killed after being struck by a vehicle in Kew Gardens on March 13, police said.
Around 6:45 a.m., police responded to a 911 call of a motor vehicle collision in which a pedestrian was struck at 82nd Road and Kew Gardens Road. Upon arrival, police observed Elise Hellinger, who lived on 116th Street, unconscious and unresponsive with trauma about the body and head.
EMS pronounced Hellinger dead at the scene. Further investigation by the NYPD Highway District Collision’s Investigation Squad determined that Hellinger was crossing the street at the intersection when she was struck by a private mini-school bus being operated by a 24-year-old man that was traveling northbound on Kew Gardens Road and making a left onto westbound 82nd Road.
The driver remained on the scene and the investigation is ongoing.
