A 29-year-old Richmond Hill man has been arrested in a collision that claimed the life of a 70-year-old Valley Stream woman in Queens Village on July 7, police said.
Around 2:37 p.m., police responded to a 911 call of a pedestrian struck at 217th Street and Jamaica Avenue. Upon arrival, police observed Donna Hahl unconscious and unresponsive as she lay on the pavement with trauma to the head and body. EMS transported her to Jamaica Hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
An investigation revealed that a 2007 Ford tow truck driven by Mandip Singh, who lives on 123rd Street in Richmond Hill, was traveling southbound on 217th Street and stopped at a red light at Jamaica Avenue. When the light changed to green, Singh’s tow truck made a left turn onto Jamaica Avenue, where it struck Hahl as she attempted to cross the street. Singh remained at the scene and was taken into custody on charges of failure to exercise due care and not having the right-of-way.
Man Sentenced For Rape
A 56-year-old Queens Village pastor has been sentenced to 15 years in prison for raping two girls who were members of his congregation, the Queens district attorney said.
Reuben Chizor, who lives on Springfield Boulevard, was sentenced following a week-long trial, during which he was found guilty of one count of first- and second-degree rape, sexual abuse and endangering the welfare of a child. Chizor’s prison sentence will be followed by 10 years of post-release supervision.
The pastor first sexually abused a 14-year-old girl in July 2011 and continued with one or both of the girls through May 2013, Queens DA Richard Brown said.
On July 27, 2011 Chizor took the 14-year-old to the basement of his church—which is also his residence—and raped her. On Aug. 22, 2011, he took the victim’s sister, who was 12 years old at the time, to the same basement and raped her. In July 2015, the girls confided in each other that the pastor had raped them and the police were then notified.
