A 51-year-old Guyana national has been sentenced to 21 years in prison for the murder of his wife on the streets of Ozone Park in December, the Queens district attorney said.
Prem Rampersaud—who lived in Guyana, but was staying with a friend on 116th Drive in Jamaica—pleaded guilty in July to first-degree manslaughter before Acting Queens Supreme Court Justice Gia Morris.
According to the charges, Rampersaud confronted the victim, Rajwantie Baldeo, 46, after she left work at an Ozone Park restaurant shortly midnight on Dec. 5. The two argued and the defendant pulled out a knife and repeatedly stabbed the victim throughout her body. She was pronounced dead at a local hospital.
