On Saturday Aug. 29 at 9:45 p.m., police responded to a pedestrian struck on the Long Island Expressway near Exit 24 – Kissena Boulevard – in Flushing. Upon arrival police observed a male aided with severe body trauma lying in the highway. EMS responded to the scene and transported the victim to New York Hospital Queens where he was pronounced deceased.
Further investigation by the NYPD’s Highway Patrol Collision Investigation Squad determined a 34-year-old male attempted to cross the Long Island Expressway from south to north in the vicinity of 169th Street. The pedestrian ran from the center wall of the Long Island Expressway and into the left travel lane, where he was struck by a 2015 Toyota Suburban, who attempted to brake and swerve to the right, but struck the pedestrian. The vehicle remained at the scene.
There are no arrests and the investigation is ongoing.
