FATAL CAR CRASHES
On Tuesday, March 17 at approximately 2:50 p.m., police responded to a call of a pedestrian struck on Astoria Boulevard and 80th Street in East Elmhurst. Upon arrival, officers determined that an 80 year-old female pedestrian was walking northbound across Astoria Boulevard at 80th Street when a 2014 Nissan Altima, being driven by a 28 year-old female, was traveling eastbound on Astoria Boulevard struck her. EMS responded and transported the victim to Elmhurst Hospital where she was pronounced dead on arrival. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad is investigating.
On Wednesday, March 18 at 4:50 p.m. police responded to a report of a vehicle collision on the Grand Central Parkway at 94 Street near LaGuardia Airport. Upon arrival, officers discovered Laurence Penna, 61, of New Fairfield, Conn. inside of a vehicle unconscious and unresponsive. EMS transported the male to New York Hospital Queens where he was pronounced deceased. An investigation revealed that the male was driving a white 2012 Toyota Prius, heading east bound on the Grand Central Parkway, when he veered to the left and struck the center median. The NYPD’s Collision Investigation Squad responded to the scene and will continue the investigation.
