The National Hockey League’s Winter Classic will likely land in Queens next year, according to a new report from Newsday.

Plans for Citi Field to host the annual event, in which two hockey teams go head to head in an outdoor stadium showdown, are close to being finalized, the report says, citing anonymous sources. The game would be between the New York Rangers and Buffalo Sabres and would take place on New Year’s Day 2018.

It would be the first time that New York City played host to the Winter Classic, although there have been two outdoor stadium hockey games at Yankee Stadium for the NHL’s “Stadium Series” games in 2014. Then, the Rangers played the New Jersey Devils before facing off against the New York Islanders. The Rangers last played in the Winter Classic in 2012, during which they beat the Philadelphia Flyers 3-2 in Philadelphia’s own Citizens Bank Park.

A spokesman for the New York Mets said that they could not comment or confirm anything at this time. The NHL did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
