Fall Fun At Long Island Aquarium

Staff Writer

Even the animals at the Long Island Aquarium get to enjoy the fall season in Riverhead.

The Long Island Aquarium and Exhibition Center in Riverhead has a variety of upcoming events for all ages to celebrate Halloween and the fall season.

On Nov. 1, it is hosting the first Bats, Barnacles and Broomsticks Halloween party from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The party will have trick or treating, a spooky house, a magic show, scary stories, face painting, hay rides, a 3-D printer demo and raffles.

Tickets for adults cost $26.50, children ages 12 and under and seniors tickets cost $20.50, but children in costume who come with an adult get 50 percent off admission. Children of ages 2 and under are free.

On Nov. 2, there is the Eat, Drink and Be Scary family brunch in the Sea Star Ballroom. The brunch is from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The buffet includes a carving “flesh” station, “macabre” macaroni station and “to die for” desserts with a Tell-Tale-Tart. There is also a cash bar, including Bloody Thirsty Marys and a Cask of Cider.

Adult tickets cost $29.95 and children and seniors tickets cost $19.95. Children ages 2 and under are free.

Discounted aquarium tickets are also available for anyone who attends the brunch. Walk-ins are welcome.

32B Aquarium2The aquarium is also hosting an event for adults only on Nov. 14. The seventh annual Fish & Sips wine tasting event is from 7 to 10:30 p.m. and features wine from more than 20 local wineries, hors d’oeuvres and live music.

This is the largest event the aquarium hosts as it uses both the ballroom and aquarium. Last year’s event had more than 900 guests.

“It’s a great opportunity to try out different wines without going to different wineries,” Darlene Puntillo, media relations at the aquarium, said. “It’s one of the most fun events that the town has.”

Tickets cost $49.95 per person and reservations are required. Designated drivers for groups of five or more get in free.

If you attend any of these events or just want to visit the aquarium, there is also going to be a new exhibit opening up in the next two weeks, featuring marmoset monkeys.
