On Sunday night, a FDNY firetruck crashed into the side of an auto repair shop in Jamaica, creating a four-foot-by-nine-foot hole and injuring five firefighters, officials said.
The FDNY reported that the truck was on its way to a fire at approximately 10:59 p.m. when it crashed in to the side of Liberty Auto Parts, located at 97-09 150th St. The five firefighters received only minor injuries and four refused treatment at the scene. The fifth was taken to North Shore University Hospital in Manhasset and treated for his injuries.
The city’s Department of Buildings investigated the structural stability of the building. A DOB spokesman said that the truck crashed into a non-weight bearing wall and the stability of the one-story building was not affected by the crash.
The DOB spokesman also stated that the building’s owner has already hired a contractor to make repairs to the damaged wall.
