Natalie Black, an arts management major from Jamaica, was among three Purchase College graduating seniors to receive the prestigious 2017 Chancellor’s Award for Student Excellence.
The award recognizes students who have best demonstrated the integration of academic excellence with accomplishments in the areas of leadership, athletics, community service, creative and performing arts, campus involvement or career achievement.
Black has been on the dean’s list for three consecutive years and received numerous academic achievement awards through the school’s Education Opportunity Program. She was co-captain of the Purchase Step Team and a member of the Soul Voices Choir. Black also volunteers in her church community, at a local nursing home and on campus as a peer mentor.
She received her award on April 5 during a ceremony at Albany’s Empire State Plaza.
“We congratulate Natalie and her fellow honorees on receiving this prestigious award, which is the highest student recognition in the statewide university system,” Purchase College president Thomas J. Schwarz said. “We have no doubt that she will continue to make us proud of her accomplishments in the years to come and wish her well in her endeavors.”
