People Of Southeast Queens: Jan. 5-11, 2018

Several Queens students—including Ozone Park’s Laurel Hegel (a senior nursing major), Breezy Point’s Trevor Mackay (a junior criminal justice major) and Maspeth’s Darwin Bloise (a junior graphic design major)—have been named to the dean’s list at York College of Pennsylvania for the fall 2017 semester. To make the list, students must be registered for at least 12 academic credits and earn a semester GPA of 3.5 or higher.

Hudson Valley Community College has added a number of Queens students to its president’s list for the fall 2017 semester. Students who made the list include Queens Village’s Joehl Ocana (who is studying in the health information management and technology academic program), Astoria’s Christopher Duffy (who is studying in the non-matriculated academic program), Fresh Meadows’ Gabriella Mignone (who is studying in the non-matriculated academic program), Kew Gardens’ Abhishek Sinha (who is studying in the business administration academic program), Ridgewood’s Vincenzo Giacalone (who is studying in the computer information systems academic program), Sunnyside’s Sebastian Ksiezopolski (who is studying in the non-matriculated academic program) and Flushing’s Linfeng Li (who is studying in the individual studies academic program). To make the list, students must be registered for at least six college credits and have a 3.5 to 4.0 grade point average.

Hudson Valley Community College also added two Queens students—Jamaica’s Tajmaleeak Becket (who is studying in the criminal justice academic program) and Jaquan Jervis-McKenzie (who is studying in the individual studies academic program)—to its dean’s list for the fall 2017 semester. To make this list, students must be registered for at least six college credits and have a 3.0 to 3.5 grade point average.

The New York National Guard has announced that a number of its members from Queens have reenlisted for service—including Jamaica’s Sgt. Daneshwar Sukhra (107th Military Police Company); Springfield Gardens’ Sgt. James Scott (107th Military Police Company); Queens Village’s Staff Sgt. Francisco Madrid (719th Transportation Company); Hollis’ Staff Sgt. Rian Barnes (who will continue service with Company B, 642nd Support Battalion); Richmond Hill’s Sgt. Ana Bello (Company G, Forward Support Company Field Artillery, 427th Brigade Support Battalion); Rockaway Park’s Sgt. First Class Deshon Blyden (Joint Force Headquarters); Far Rockaway’s Sgt. Jonah Conyers (222nd Military Police Company); Woodside’s Corp. Kevin Caban (107th Military Police Company); Flushing’s Spc. Joseph Dagostino (Company B, 101st Signal Battalion); Briarwood’s Sgt. Robert Gonzalez (Company B, 642nd Support Battalion); Corona’s Spc. Jianzhi Huang (Company D, 1-69th Infantry); Woodhaven’s Corp. Jakub Jakubowski (133rd Quartermaster Support Company); Howard Beach’s Sgt. First Class Gino Pena (Company C, 101st Signal Battalion); East Elmhurst’s Sgt. Ronald Roldan (Company B, 101st Signal Battalion); Bayside’s Spc. Giancarlo Schimmenti (1156th Engineer Company); Astoria’s Sgt.
