People Of Southeast Queens: March 30-April 5, 2018

Hollis’ Michell Lodge recently earned first place at the 2018 International Championship of Collegiate A Cappella (ICCA) Mid-Atlantic Quarterfinal as part of Hofstra University’s co-ed a cappella group, The Hofbeats. The win means that the group will advance to the semifinals for the first time. The group will compete on March 31 in Philadelphia.

Springfield Gardens’ Sydney Augustine was selected by NBC Sports to assist with the network’s coverage of the 2018 Winter Olympic Games, which were held in February in Pyeongchang, Korea. Augustine is a member of the class of 2019 who is majoring in sport media at Ithaca College’s Roy H. Park School of Communications.
Cambria Heights’ Kamil Davis has been named to the dean’s list at Becker College for the fall semester. To make the list, students must obtain a 3.5 grade point average, complete at least 12 credit hours, have no grade below a B- and no incompletes.

Jamaica’s Brian Senajor—and other master of biomedical science students—recently participated in a documentary screening discussion. Senajor attended a movie screening of “Hilleman: A Perilous Quest to Save the World’s Children” at the Baruch S. Blumberg Institute that was hosted by the Hepatitis B Foundation. After the event, the film’s director and producer, Donald Rayne Mitchell, joined Paul A. Offit, M.D., chief of the division of infectious diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, in a panel discussion.

The American-Italian Cancer Foundation’s mobile, No-Cost Breast Cancer Screening Program—which provides mammograms and clinical breast exams to uninsured and medically underserved New York City women—is scheduled to conduct screenings in Queens.

Sites where screenings will be held include Safe Medical Care (97-47 77th St. in Ozone Park) on March 31, Joseph Addabbo Family Health Center (6200 Beach Channel Drive in Arverne) on April 5, Joseph Addabbo Family Health Center (114-39 Sutphin Blvd. in Jamaica) on April 6, Joseph Addabbo Family Health Center (1288 Central Ave. in Far Rockaway) on April 6, First Central Savings Bank (42-12 Bell Blvd. in Bayside) on April 7 and Parisien Beauty School (50-15 Roosevelt Ave. in Woodside) on April 8.

Jamaica’s Roazena Miller has been named to the president’s list at Western New England University for the fall semester. Miller is working on a doctor of occupational therapy degree. To make the list, students must obtain a 3.8 grade point average.

Queens Village’s Victoria Bruno, a health science major, has been named to the dean’s list at Saint Francis University for the fall semester. To make the list, students must be enrolled full time and obtain a 3.8 grade point average.

Rosedale’s Thomas Kronemberg has been named to the dean’s list for the fall semester at Georgia State University. To make the list, students must earn a 3.5 grade point average and complete at least nine hours of academic credit with no incompletes.

Far Rockaway’s Charisma Dozier has been named to the president’s list for the fall semester at Georgia State University. To make the list, students must obtain a 4.0 grade point average and complete at least nine hours of academic credit with no incompletes.

Holliswood’s Johnathan Walker was recently named to the 2018 men’s track and field roster for Wheaton College.
