A 26-year-old Queens Village man was found guilty in an attempted drug robbery and shooting in January 2015 that resulted in the death of a teenager and the wounding of another man, the Queens district attorney said.
Jairam Ali Suarez, who lives on 214th Street, was convicted on Wednesday of two counts of second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree criminal possession of a weapon, robbery and attempted robbery following a half-week jury trial before Queens Supreme Court Justice Michael Aloise. Suarez, who faces up to 50 years to life in prison, will be sentenced on Nov. 9.
At the time of the incident, 21-year-old Ridgewood resident Wilfredo Aponte was seated in the backseat of vehicle parked in front of 150-22 130th St. on Jan. 6, 2015 when Suarez opened the backdoor and entered the vehicle with the intent of robbing its occupants of the pound of marijuana that they believed he was there to buy. Suarez shot Aponte in the leg and then shot John Pichardo, 19, in the head before fleeing the scene.
