Scripture: Isaiah 59:19
As we see the world changing all around us, many would agree that the change doesn’t seem to be for the better.
What was once normal in our society now seems to be abnormal, and what was not accepted or tolerated seems to be more accepted than ever before.
Changes can often not be avoided, but the most important thing is to make sure the change that is taking place is a change for the better. In the book of Isaiah, we see Israel took a change for the worse and found itself in danger of judgment and captivity, if it did not change its lifestyle of sin. In this particular chapter, we see the prophet speaking about sin, confession and redemption.
The truth is that everyone has sinned at one point or time in their lives by omission or commission by thought, word or deed. God is a gracious God and allows us to turn our lives around by giving us warnings and chance after chance. What God is not going to do is to allow blatant sin to go on forever. There comes a time when God says, “Enough is enough.”
In this 59th chapter in the 19th verse, we can learn something that God performed that will help us along the way. He said that when the enemy tries to come against his people like a flood, the spirit of the Lord will lift up a standard against him. God always looks over those who are walking in his ways. Raising our standards of life for better living and experiencing God’s favor is mandatory. Having a low standard of moral laws and righteous living will present an invitation for the enemy to come into your life. And once the enemy has entered your space, his plan would be to infiltrate your mind, control your words and thoughts and, ultimately, destroy your relationship with God.
When the devil removes you out of the will of God, he will attempt to sift you like wheat. Paul mentions in Galatians 5:22 the attributes and standards that we should be living by—which he refers to as the fruit of the spirit. Living by these standards Paul mentions will ultimately lift a standard against the enemy that will keep us in the right relationship with Jesus Christ.
