Last week, Councilwoman Julissa Ferreras hosted a Women’s Heart Health Expo in her district to raise awareness for coronary heart disease and to provide residents with blood pressure and cholesterol screenings, CPR training and healthy food prep demonstrations.
We think all of that is terrific. It’s always good to provide the public with tips on how to live a healthier lifestyle and raise awareness for a disease that affects so many people every year.
We couldn’t help but notice, though, that one of the sponsors of the event was Coca Cola. There’s some irony there as Coca Cola is not exactly something you should drink if you’re looking to improve your eating/drinking habits and your overall health.
They might as well have gotten McDonalds or Burger King to sponsor the expo if you’re going to have sugary drinks at a health event.
