Aug. 10
Health and Safety Community Affair
State Sen. Leroy Comrie and the First Faith Baptist Church will host a community health fair. The event will feature food, vendors, health screenings, safety programming and more for the people of Southeast Queens.

The event takes place from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m. at the First Faith Baptist Church, located at 114-02 208th St. in Cambria Heights. It will be free to attend.

Aug. 13
Back To School Block Party
Join the Kaye Sisters of Natural Hair Does Care for a back to school block party at the Linden Church of Seventh-Day Adventists. The event will feature school supplies giveaways, vouchers for free school uniforms, haircuts and hair braiding, fun activities for children and more.

The event will take place at 228-20 137th Ave. in Laurelton and is free to attend. The church will accept donations of school supplies on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings as well as Saturday and Sunday afternoons.

Aug. 14
Magic and Mind Reading at Queens Library
Professional magicians Rich Marotta, Steve Dane and Ulises Beato will host an evening of magic, mind reading and comedy. Each magician will offer a different perspective on the art of magic and promises to bewilder and beguile library-goers.

The event, which is free to attend, will take place from 6:30 p.m. to 7:45 .m. at the Queens Library branch in Cambria Heights, located at 218-13 Linden Blvd. For more information, call (718) 528-3535.

Aug. 15
“The Spy Who Loved Me” At Jamaica Library
Come to Queens Library’s Central Branch in Jamaica for a screening of the James Bond classic “The Spy Who Loved Me.” Follow the exciting story of James Bond as he investigates the hijacking of British and Russian submarines carrying nuclear warheads with the help of a Russian spy whose lover he killed.

Join two of New York City’s most renowned jazz vocalists—Brianna Thomas and Brandon Bain—for a night of jazz and love songs at Queens Library’s Central Branch in Jamaica.

The event takes place at 89-11 Merrick Blvd. in Jamaica, is free to attend and will run from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Library Closure
The Queens Library at South Jamaica, located at 108-41 Guy R. Brewer Blvd., will close for renovations—effective June 24th—for approximately four months. Mobile library service will be available on Mondays between 10 a.m. and 5 p.m.
